[ 91] Dugmaren: Race Beta Test, Second Go
Tue Dec 11 19:30:24 2007
To: all
Well, we are entering the end of our beta testing of the race changes. I realize
you guys have been waiting a while for anything on this, but this took some thinking
to come up with. After much discussion, observation, testing and banging our head
on the desk, we hammered out the next set of racial changes that will go into affect
as of the next reboot.
These changes are for the most part minor. There are two significant areas we are
focusing on: Racial IMMUNITIES which affect spell/damage, and races that for whatever
reason are unpopular. For immunities, it was decided that they offset game mechanics
too much (both in terms of PC vs PC and PC vs NPC). Unpopular races just needed a
little incentive boost to make them more appealing. So, these are the changes that
we're putting in:
- Races possessing racial immunities affecting spells and damage type (NEGATIVE & FIRE)
will have these immunities downgraded into resistances. To supplement the loss, these
races will be given added resistances and/or vulnerabilities taken from them.
- HEUCUVA, SATYR, ESPER
- Unpopular races as deemed by the staff will be given incentives ranging from
resistances to permanent affects to (in three races) a tweaking of base stats. The
following races will be given additional resistances and/or a loss in vulnerabilities:
- DROW, PIXIE, HALFLING, GOBLIN, GNOME, DWARF, DRACONIAN, THRI'KREEN
The following races will have their base stats modified:
- PIXIE, GNOME, THRI'KREEN
(Thri'kreens were found to have no active players, and so received an overhaul).
- Additionally, permanent affects that offer modifiers as spells/skills will be removed
from all races possessing them, specifically permanent BERSERK and HASTE. This will
allow the modifiers to be utilized once again.
We'll release a more detailed list of changes at a later date. I need to discuss with
the staff and owner about how much detail to include. Bane was just kind enough to say,
"Hey, those changes we've been hammering out, you want me to put those in?" and, well,
I took him up on the offer.
The staff feels confortable with these changes: there are far more good changes than bad
ones going in, and many races should receive a much needed boost in popularity and
playability. I apologize in advance to those who might be upset by these changes, and
assure you all that we keep in mind the interest of our players above all else when
making these far reaching decisions. Thank you all, and enjoy the changes. Bane will
be up shortly to give you his rendition of things to come.
